- Ford Falcon GT-HO Phase III book charity lot makes $16,000
- Strong demand for rare enamel signs and petrol pumps
- 1980s Yo-Yo collection attracts nostalgic bidding activity
Enthusiasts and collectors spent up big stocking their 'man caves' and studies in Shannons Timed Autumn Memorabilia Auction which closes on April 5 after six days of online bidding on 294 items offered with 'no reserve'.
Interest in the emotive Bathurst 'Supercar' days of the early 1970s was particularly strong, with books, models, workshop manuals and paintings associated with Ford's famed GT-HO Falcons in great demand and commanding strong prices.
The absolute highlight was the $16,000 paid for the auction's charity lot – book number one of the limited edition Falcon XY GT-HO Phase III Register book covering each of the 300 special race Falcons built by Ford in 1971 that culminated in Allan Mofffat's victory in the Bathurst 1000 that year.
Proceeds from the sale of the book, with its foreword by Moffat, produced a windfall for Dementia Australia, comfortably exceeding the book's pre-auction high estimate of $10,000 after strong competitive bidding in the online sale's final hours.
The interest in other Bathurst 'Supercar' era extended to other auction items, with a collection of Falcon GT-HO Phase I, Phase II and Phase III workshop manuals bringing $2,300 and a framed signed photo board of the 1971 Bathurst race, signed by each of the 17 GT-HO Phase III drivers selling for $3.000.
Enamel garage signs continued to be popular with 'man cave' decorators, with a 109cm x 105cm COR shield bringing $4,750; an embossed 241cm x 45cm ETHYL sign made $4,150 and an embossed 240cm x 71cm ATLANTIC sign selling for $3,000
Petrol pumps have always been garagenalia favourites and their popularity continued, with a Wayne Martin &Schwartz MS80 pump in Mobil gas livery top-selling at $9,000 after strong late bidding, while a circ-`930s ERL manual pump presented I Super Shell colours with internals and a Perspex top sold for $5,600.
In associated products, a Golden Fleece liveried oil rack and bottlers commanded $1,600 and a similar Castrol Wakefield set sold for $1,000.
A collection of 52 assorted 1/43 scale Ferrrari model cars sold for $1,550; a collection of 12 Coca-Cola and Pepsi Yoyos brought $1,600; a new, boxed and unopened Russell Coca-Cola professional Yoyo sold for $950 and a collection of Automobile Year books brought $975.
Michelin branded items continued to be in demand, with a light-up lamp with Michelin 'Bibendum' figurine selling for $2,050 and a 45cm tall Michelin man and a Michelin thermometer selling together for $1,400.
Amongst the larger items, a circa 1950 Austin J40 pedal car in need of a full restoration, but with some parts, brought $3,000.
