Fresh from becoming the first motorcycle to win the prestigious Supertest trophy in Spain for three years in a row, Triumph’s Daytona 675 has now been voted the No. 1 Supersport roadbike by iconic magazine Australian Motorcycle News (AMCN).

The Daytona 675 received the accolade in AUStest, a massive comparo run by AMCN in search of Australia’s ultimate sportsbike. As well as a thorough road test, AUStest also included a track day at Sydney’s Eastern Creek, where the Daytona 675 was praised for its awesome torque, excellent mid-range, superb brakes and for its sheer entertainment value. It also had the best power to weight ratio of the five bikes on test.

Across riders with a broad range of experience – from road racing luminaries to experienced journalists and ride day punters - the Daytona 675 recorded the second fastest average lap time at Eastern Creek, but it was in the ‘real’ world conditions of the road test where the Triumph really showed its opposition a clean pair of heels.

According to AMCN, “…the Trumpy (compared to the Japanese opposition) is much closer to the fat part of its torque curve when the throttle is twisted – an important consideration for fast point-to-point times on the road”.

“The advantage the engine gives the 675 in real world riding cannot be underestimated, and it as always the talking point at each and every coffee stop.”

The $14,890 Daytona 675 dominated top-gear roll-ons during the road test, even when the “heavyweight” riders were aboard for back-to-back comparisons.

“The Supersport category is probably the toughest on the planet, so for the Daytona to come out on top in the road component of AUStest is an enormous achievement,” said Kevin Greaney, the Managing Director of Triumph Australia.

“From the moment it was released in 2006, the Daytona 675 has been a revelation, and three years on that continues to be the case.

“Undoubtedly, the 675’s calling card is the magnificent three-cylinder powerplant, which has now found a second – and very successful home – in the Street Triple.”

The full Supersport AUStest appears in the latest issue of AMCN (Vol 57 No 25), which has gone on sale today.
