INCOMPARABLE
As the first three-cylinder super sports middleweight, the Daytona
675 has become a force to be reckoned with in the most hotly
contested arena in motorcycling. The 675 has gone from strength to
strength, having won countless comparison tests and proudly wearing
the crown as King of the Supersports bikes in both the Supertest
and Masterbike international multi-magazine tests for two years
running.
The gorgeous Daytona 675 is an exciting bike that owners will
never tire of riding. The 675cc, liquid-cooled, three cylinder,
12-valve power unit is extremely compact, featuring a Keihin fuel
injection system and a stacked six-speed close ratio gearbox. Peak
power of 125PS (123bhp) is delivered at 12,500rpm, with 72Nm
(53ft.lbf) torque at 11,750rpm.
The standard exhaust features an efficient underseat end-can and
uses a secondary valve to boost low down torque. The 675cc engine
meets fully the stringent Euro-3 emission regulations and, while
the engine is refined, the triple's innate character remains with
typical Triumph toughness engineered all the way through.
The Daytona 675's aluminium frame is fabricated with open-back
cast spars which wrap over the top of the motor, accentuating the
benefits of the narrow three-cylinder design. Rake is set at
23.9°, trail at 89.1mm with a wheelbase of 1,395mm. Dry weight
is 165kg (363lbs).
Top quality, fully adjustable Kayaba 41mm upside down forks and
a fully adjustable piggyback reservoir rear shock take care of the
suspension. The sports focused riding position of the Daytona 675
comprises of a firmly padded narrow seat for maximum feedback, low
set clip-on handlebars and high rearset footpegs.
A radial master cylinder and twin radial four-piston calipers
work on the front floating 308mm discs, matched by a 220mm rear
disc and single piston caliper. The wheels are a lightweight
five-spoke design with dimensions of 17 x 3.5in (front) and 17 x
5.5in (rear) and they wear the super sticky Pirelli Super Corsa
road/track compound tyres. Front tyre size is 120/70 ZR17, the rear
is 180/55 ZR17.
The Daytona 675's digital instrument console has all the usual
trip functions as well as displaying average fuel economy. Also
featured is a sophisticated lap timer - useful for comparing
successive lap times on a circuit as well as average and maximum
speed for each lap.
A programmable gear change indicator illuminates seven LEDs to
let you know the perfect point at which to change up, for optimum
performance: You can program in both the engine speed and the
illumination sequence. The LCD panel also tells you which gear you
are in at all times.
The stylish twin projector beam front headlights have been
updated for 2008 and now use new-style lenses in the projectors,
changing the light distribution to give an excellent spread of
light. Seat height is 825mm, fuel capacity is 17.4 litres (3.8
gal).
Colour options for the Daytona 675 are Jet Black and Neon Blue,
both new for 2008, which arrive alongside the popular Tornado Red
option. Also new for 2008 are the bigger, bolder decals adorning
the bodywork. A full range of official Triumph accessories are
available for the Daytona 675, including a carbon fibre front
mudguard, infills, heel guards and a silencer cover. A free flowing
Triumph exhaust can is also available (for circuit use only) and
Arrow, the racing specialists, have produced a full Titanium system
(available through Triumph dealers) that saves over 6kg in weight
and adds 5PS, again for circuit use only.
The Daytona 675 has taken the motorcycling world by storm since
its launch, redrawing the super sports middleweight map thanks to
its exciting, powerful engine and intuitive, razor sharp chassis.
Sitting firmly within a class of one, the 675 delivers incredible
performance and has truly earned the praise heaped on it by some of
the toughest critics in the motorcycle press.
The Daytona 675. Incomparable.
