It was the London truckers' café that became a favourite haunt of Britain's bikers and a powerful symbol of post-war counterculture. The Ace Cafe gained notoriety as the biker hang out in the early 60's and formed an instrumental piece of the café racer culture of the era.
To celebrate the rich association of Triumph's history with the Ace Cafe, a new Special Edition, the ‘Thruxton Ace', was revealed as part of the annual Brighton Burn Up celebrations. Over the weekend of September 12 - 14, 2014, in excess of 25,000 café racer fans descended onto the Brighton seafront to share and celebrate their passion for dropped handlebars, roaring exhausts and old style rock n roll.
The celebration reached its climax on Sunday 14 September, and was marked by a mass ride out from the Ace Café on London's North Circular to Brighton. The ride out was led by Ace Café managing director Mark Wilsmore, astride the first Triumph Thruxton Ace Special Edition.
The Thruxton Ace combines the evocative silhouette of a true Triumph classic racer, with a fabulous one-off Pure White and Jet Black paint livery reflecting Triumph's long historical connection with the Ace Café. The bike is tastefully co-branded with Ace Café logos adorning the side panels, tank and tail section.
With low slung handlebars, alloy-rimmed wire wheels and dominating central racing stripe running along the tank to the beautifully sculpted custom seat, the Triumph Thruxton Ace looks as ready to take pole position on a classic race grid as much as sit purposefully outside the local café after a spirited morning ride.
Featuring the same engine as the renowned Triumph Thruxton, power is provided by Triumph's signature charismatic parallel twin from the Bonneville. Producing peak power of 69PS and 69Nm of torque across a broad rev range, the Thruxton delivers its performance with a suitable increase in the edginess of the exhaust note from the classically styled chrome silencers.
The Thruxton's chassis is based around the Bonneville, and meets Triumph's exacting standards by generating an assured, composed, yet agile ride at all times. Its steel tube frame, 41mm KYB forks, twin KYB rear shocks, Nissin disc brakes and wire spokes on lightweight aluminium rims running the latest radial tyres combine with sporting steering geometry to give the Thruxton Ace performance to match the engine's character and riding position.
A contemporary two-wheeled tribute to an iconic venue, the Thruxton Ace is set to revive memories, create new ones and turn heads when it's let loose on the Brighton seafront.
The Thruxton Ace. An everyday icon.
