Suzuki Australia today announced the local launch the
world’s biggest super-scooter, the Burgman 650.
Aimed at riders needing a scooter with touring performance and the
riding convenience and comfort of a scooter-style motorcycle, the
high-tech new 638cc Suzuki Burgman is the largest capacity scooter
available on the world market and features the motorcycle
world’s first dual mode transmission in a scooter.
"The Burgman 650 is another landmark model from Suzuki," Perry
Morison, General Manager Suzuki Motorcycles said.
"Traditionally the scooter market has been dominated by small
capacity machines designed for city-only applications, but the
Burgman is a technologically superior machine designed for
practicality and comfort,"
Suzuki’s innovative electronically-controlled Continuously
Variable Transmission (SECVT) provides the rider with the option of
either push-button five-speed manual with pre-determined gear
ratios or dual-range automatic mode that offers both "normal" and
"power" options.
While in automatic mode riders can select automatic normal mode,
automatic power mode or manual shifting using a bar-mounted control
switch.
Powering the all-new Burgman is a newly-developed state-of-the-art
638cc fuel-injected liquid-cooled DOHC, twin-cylinder engine which
delivers excellent power and torque especially in the low and
mid-range, enhancing two-up riding.
As befits its market appeal, the new Suzuki Burgman 650 is big on
comfort and practicality.
A tall, fairing-mounted windscreen and enclosed bodywork provide
wind protection comparable to that of a fully faired
motorcycle.
The rider’s backrest is easily adjustable without tools, and
there are four separate storage compartments in the front panel,
one with a DC outlet for mobile phone charging.
Two-up riding is made practical with an under-seat luggage space
large enough to accommodate two full-face helmets, with a
compartment light located under the seat so it is not obscured by
luggage.
For security, a magnetically operated cover on the ignition barrel
only responds to the owner’s key.
Technically, the Burgman’s superior ride comfort is enhanced
by motorcycle-type front forks and adjustable dual rear shock
absorbers that give generous wheel travel, while wide radial tyres
(120-section front and 160-section rear) contribute to smoothness
and stability.
The new Burgman also features dual 260mm front brake discs and a
single 230mm rear disc, all gripped by powerful twin piston
calipers.
Suzuki’s Burgman 650 is available in Metallic Silver at a
suggested retail price of $12,990 including GST (plus on-road
costs).
