Suzuki Australia has announced the imminent arrival of its 2008
RM85 and RM85L junior motocrossers, offering a sneak preview of the
ever-popular beginners’ machines.
Equipped with technology from Suzuki’s
championship-winning two-stroke motocross weapons, the junior-size
RM85 is the perfect tool for young riders learning to race and
win.
Suitable for bigger riders, the RM85L features larger wheels,
plus a longer swingarm and wheelbase.
Powering the next generation of champions, the high-revving,
lightweight, 84.7cc, two-stroke, liquid-cooled engine delivers
incredible performance with strong peak power and torque.
The lightweight single cylinder features Suzuki's original
Suzuki Composite Electrochemical Material (SCEM) coating for
efficient heat transfer and engine durability.
Incorporating aluminium exhaust valves plus an RM125-style
exhaust valve governor and linkage, the proven Suzuki engine offers
precise valve movement and strong throttle response.
The RM85 features a Keihin PE28 carburetor for smooth throttle
response and simplified maintenance, while a digital CDI map offers
suitable engine performance at high rpm.
Designed with young riders in mind, the RM85 features a
smooth-shifting, six-speed transmission, optimised for positive
shift feel.
In addition, Suzuki’s junior motocrosser is equipped with
a long clutch lever for precise clutch feel and easier operation
during starts and cornering.
The chassis of the RM85 features a high-tensile, tubular steel,
thick-wall frame for impressive cornering performance.
Giving young riders maximum confidence, the Showa 37mm inverted
front forks are completely adjustable for rider weight, style and
ability, and include fork guards to protect the inner fork
tubes.
On the rear, a large diameter rear shock is designed to produce
a plush feel with strong bottoming resistance.
The RM85 includes a twin-piston front brake caliper with a large
220mm disc and a 200mm disc brake on the rear, delivering
consistently strong braking performance and feel.
Thick cross-sectioned brake and shift pedals, plus chrome-moly
steel footpegs provide increased durability and offer riders
improved feel.
Highlighting its edgy, aggressive styling, the 2008-model RM85
features bold new graphics inspired by the full-size RM125 and
RM250 Suzukis.
Sporting Suzuki’s distinctive Champion Yellow livery, the
RM85 and Big Wheel RM85L are anticipated to arrive in late August,
with pricing to be advised closer to the arrival date.
