The latest iteration of the championship-winning Suzuki RM-Z450
has landed in Australian dealerships.
Arriving on the cusp of back to back Australian MX Nationals MX1
Motocross Championships, the 2015 RM-Z450 continues the evolution
of one of the most legendary nameplates in motorsport.
Delivering a higher level of performance while maintaining the
great balance that defined its predecessor, the latest and greatest
Suzuki boasts a host of performance upgrades straight from the
factory race bike.
A highlight of the 2015 model is the new 49mm Showa SFF-Air
Triple Air Chamber (TAC) front fork. A radical progression from the
original SFF system boasting no coil spring, outstanding weight
reduction, increased inner tube diameter and increased damper rod
and piston. The SFF-Air consists of three chambers and riders can
alter the spring rate with an air pump instead of changing out fork
springs.
The new bike also comes standard with Suzuki Holeshot Assist
Control (S-HAC). The selectable launch mode system comes straight
from the factory race bike to help riders achieve the perfect
start.
The system comes with three modes so riders can choose the best
option for their skill level and riding conditions:
A Mode: For hard surfaces or less than ideal conditions at the
starting gate;
B Mode: When there is better traction and a more aggressive launch
is required;
Off: Standard map for normal starting performance;
Engine starting has been improved with a longer kick starter
lever for easier operation, a redesigned kick drive gear, a
relocated kick idle gear, a newly added breather gear and a
restyled decompression system that works more precisely and
efficiently.
The reworked frame offers the twin benefits of increased
rigidity, while delivering a four per cent benefit in weight
savings over the previous model.
Cooling performance has been enhanced with the radiator hose
connection changed from a T-shape to a Y-shape design for better
water flow between the left and right radiators.
Water flow is also increased by as much as 16 per cent with a
redesigned water pump cover, while the water hose is now directly
connected to the water pump.
Gear shifting feel has been improved with a revised gear shift
cam for more precise changes. The machining process of each gear
has also been refined to increase the precision between matching
gears.
In total, the 2015 Suzuki RM-Z450 represents a significant step
forward from the bike since its introduction has won 17 major
Motocross and Supercross championships worldwide. In addition to
its mechanical overhaul, the price has been streamlined as well and
is available now for a recommended retail price of just
$10,990.
