Suzuki Motorcycles has announced details of its exciting,
all-new, ready-to-race four-wheeler set to storm the Australian ATV
racing arena in 2006; the QuadRacer R450.
Utilising the expertise of ATVA Pro Champion Doug Gust, the
Suzuki QuadRacer has been developed specifically for the racetrack,
with a low centre of gravity, long wheelbase and rugged
high-tensile steel frame.
Fuel injection, vibration-reducing counterbalancers, a
five-speed transmission and electric start make a formidable
combination for Suzuki’s new QuadRacer R450.
“The QuadRacer R450 has been purpose built to meet the
tough demands of the racetrack - strong, durable and reliable, as
well as fast, agile and able to instil plenty of rider
confidence,” Perry Morison, General Manager –
Motorcycles, Suzuki Australia said.
“Suzuki’s latest sports ATV has got
everything… fantastic looks with a race-built chassis and
engine package for a competitive edge and, best of all, it is ready
to race as soon as it leaves the dealership.”
Based on the world championship winning RM-Z450 motocross
engine, the QuadRacer R450 features a 450cc, fuel injected,
four-stroke, DOHC, single cylinder powerplant designed to be
compact, lightweight and deliver broad, smooth power.
Delivering class-leading torque and acceleration, the QuadRacer
R450 has a compact cylinder head design, compact combustion chamber
and an 11.7:1 compression ratio for maximum performance.
Lightweight and durable titanium 36mm intake valves and 29mm
exhaust valves offer precise valve control at high rpm and reduce
mechanical losses.
Machined from forged-steel billets, the Suzuki’s camshafts
are hollow to reduce inertial mass, while a new compact
counter-balancer system features shaft-mounted weights positioned
either side of the crankshaft flywheels.
The aluminium cylinder bore is electro-plated with
Suzuki’s own race-proven SCEM (Suzuki Composite
Electrochemical Material), offering improved heat transfer and a
tighter piston-to-cylinder clearance which increases the
machine’s power and reduces wear.
Further reducing friction and improving overall engine
durability, the lightweight, forged, aluminium-alloy piston employs
a new three-ring design with oil-retaining grooves, while the oil
control ring features high-performance chrome-nitride plating.
The innovative Suzuki Advanced Sump System (SASS) allows the
engine mass and crankshaft to be positioned close to the ground for
a low centre of gravity and also keeps the engine as short as
possible.
The QuadRacer’s state-of-the-art, digital fuel injection
system features a 43mm bore and multi-hole type injector for
optimum atomisation, smooth throttle response and maximum
performance.
Managing the Suzuki’s advanced fuel injection system is a
high-performance ECM with 16-bit CPU, which uses 3D maps and
automatically compensates for atmospheric pressure, ambient
temperature and engine coolant temperature.
As compact as a conventional four-speed gearbox, the QuadRacer
R450 features a brand new, close-ratio, five-speed, constant mesh
transmission.
Lightweight magnesium cam cover, clutch outer cover, magneto
cover, and cylinder head cover are incorporated for minimal weight
and maximum durability.
Cooling efficiency for the high-performance 450cc engine is
second to none with a large-capacity radiator and compact and
lightweight, shrouded cooling fan.
An all-new, stainless steel exhaust system utilises a compact
centrally located muffler layout for improved mass centralisation,
improved stability, and higher cornering performance.
Featuring the longest wheelbase, widest tracks and lowest seat
height in its class, along with the lowest centre of gravity and
longest wheel travel, the QuadRacer R450 is built around a
high-tensile steel frame designed for optimum rigidity and maximum
durability.
Independent double wishbone suspension on the new Suzuki
provides riders with a class-leading 254mm of front wheel
travel.
Fully adjustable for spring preload, compression damping and
rebound damping, the piggyback-reservoir-style Kayaba front shocks
with 40mm pistons and sturdy 14mm shafts offer consistent, fade
resistant damping and improved durability.
At the rear, a new race-ready high-tensile steel swingarm is
designed to deliver the ideal rigidity for racing and a smoother
arc of movement for optimum handling performance in any
environment.
The Kayaba rear shock with piggyback reservoir features fully
adjustable spring preload and rebound damping, plus independently
adjustable high and low speed compression damping, and provides an
outstanding 277mm of rear wheel travel.
Offering exceptional stopping power, the machine is fitted with
160mm front discs and high performance dual-piston hydraulic
calipers plus a single, axle-mounted, 190mm rear disc with a
single-piston hydraulic rear caliper.
Special radial tyres designed specifically for the QuadRacer
R450 combine with 10 x 5.5 inch aluminium rear wheels and 18 x 10
inch aluminium front wheels for a low centre of gravity and superb
cornering stability.
With its low, wide profile, the bodywork of the QuadRacer
incorporates aggressive styling and a range of race-bred features
including a high-impact, plastic skid plate for engine protection
and rugged, large, serrated footpegs to provide excellent grip and
control.
Race-styled radiator shrouds, front and rear fenders, and the
comfortable T-shaped seat provide the power packed Suzuki with an
exciting, aggressive new look and offer maximum rider mobility.
Low fuel, neutral, fuel injection and coolant temperature
indicator lights are conveniently located on the handle bar
cover.
With arrival estimated for December 2005, Suzuki’s
exceptional, ready-to-race LT-R450K6 will feature a six-month
unlimited kilometre warranty and be available in Champion Yellow,
with price to be announced closer to the release date.
