The next addition to Suzuki’s all-new innovative ATV model
range is the Vinson LT-A500F, a machine so strong, capable and
versatile that it requires an entirely new classification, the
“Sport Utility ATV.”
Named after Mount Vinson, the highest mountain on the rugged
Antarctic continent, the title suggests that this ATV is ready for
some serious business, whether it be trudging through mud-filled
paddocks or carting a trailer load of firewood.
“The LT-A500F Vinson, is the largest, most capable and
innovative ATV Suzuki has ever produced and signifies the
company’s intention of becoming a major force on the ATV
scene,” Suzuki’s General Manager for Motorcycles, Perry
Morison, says.
“If you thought the 400cc-class Eiger models were
impressive, the LT-A500F Vinson has many of the standout features
of the smaller ATV and quite a few more of its own.”
The 493cc, 4-stroke, 4-valve, SOHC engine is equipped with
liquid-cooling, a high compression ratio and large carburetor,
feeding the Vinson with abundant low-rpm torque and increased
performance over previous models.
The Vinson LT-A500F features a QuadMatic, fully automatic CVT
(continuously variable transmission) with centrifugal clutch, two
speed sub-transmission with reverse for complete versatility in all
conditions.
As with the Eiger’s automatic transmission, engine braking
on the Vinson also instinctively engages when riding downhill on a
closed throttle, providing enhanced grip on descents.
Another innovative feature of the Vinson’s high-tech
transmission is a “Start in Gear” system which allows
for easy starting in any gear, which is particularly useful because
neutral does not have to be found when remounting.
Selectable four wheel drive is a concept that was pioneered and
introduced into the ATV market by Suzuki. The Vinson’s
selectable four wheel drive system is Suzuki’s most advanced
ever, with quick and easy engagement by simply pressing a
convenient handlebar-mounted selector button.
A torque-sensing limited slip front differential is also
standard on the Vinson, distributing power evenly to the front
wheels when four wheel drive is engaged and slippery terrain
threatens traction.
Braking on the LT-A500F is more than adequately taken care of
through the use of dual front disc brakes and a single rear disc
which boasts a large 216mm diameter. Unique to the Vinson, its
parking brake locks the drive shaft for added confidence.
To handle rough terrain, the Vinson offers class-leading
suspension travel, 180 mm on the front and 200 mm at the rear.
With 5-way adjustable, double wishbone front suspension and
5-way adjustable, swingarm/twin shock rear suspension, the rider is
in total control of the settings allowing a tailored ride for
optimum comfort levels and to suit varied terrain.
In addition to the key areas already mentioned, the Vinson
LT-A500F is well optioned and has numerous unique features to put
it further ahead of the competition.
Designed to provide greater comfort in varied riding conditions,
the Vinson’s seat is in a “T” shape allowing the
rider to adopt different seating positions for enhanced comfort and
control.
Storage space on the Vinson is excellent, making use of a water
resistant, fender-mounted 3.0 litre storage compartment that offers
easy access for the rider. A second water resistant 4.5 litre
storage box is located underneath the taillight.
As well as the storage compartments, this Suzuki ATV is also
equipped with sturdy front and rear racks, ideal for hauling sacks
of feed, hay bales or fencing equipment. If further space is
required the rider can make use of the standard trailer hitch.
When darkness falls, the LT-A500F’s widely-spaced,
fender-mounted high / low headlights come into their own, while a
handlebar-mounted auxiliary light can be directed with a turn of
the handlebar, which is particularly useful when at standstill.
As with the smaller Eiger ATVs, the Vinson also has a rear
taillight that incorporates a brake light. A waterproof 12V DC
power outlet is an added convenience, allowing the operation of a
phone, radio or farming equipment such as sprayers.
Adding to the Vinson’s strong list of credentials is a
fully digital handlebar-mounted instrumentation pod, featuring
speedometer, twin tripmeter, hourmeter, clock, gear position and
drive mode. Separate warning lights are provided for neutral,
reverse, high-beam, parking brake and water temperature.
Suzuki’s all-new Vinson LT-A500F ATV is due for release in
October.
