The fifth generation of Suzuki's cutting edge open class,
championship-winning, 4-stroke motocrosser, the 2013 RM-Z450, has
just been announced, packed with substantial upgrades to win
bar-to-bar battles.
Chosen by champions like James Stewart, the 2013 RM-Z450
continues the legacy of its ground-breaking predecessors with
significant engine upgrades, redesigned transmission, suspension
changes and more.
The RM-Z450's 449cc, 4-stroke, liquid cooled, DOHC, 4-valve,
fuel-injected engine has been overhauled and refined to deliver
phenomenal
idle-to-redline thrust with increased acceleration, faster throttle
response and broader mid-range power and torque.
Developed and tested by factory race teams, the all-new piston
is 13 per cent lighter and the piston pin has a Diamond-Like Carbon
(DLC) surface treatment, which increases durability and lowers
friction.
A new intake camshaft and updated electronics have been fitted
to be in harmony with the new engine internals.
The all-new ECM has higher processing performance and delivers
increased power with a new ignition coil resulting in optimised
combustion efficiency and enhanced roll-on performance.
The RM-Z450's all-new frame is 91 grams lighter with changes to
the frame head, rails and down tube and a refined seat rail for
rigidity and balance, contributing to increased stability and
better handling.
To fine-tune fuel preferences to suit track conditions, two
couplers are enclosed allowing the rider to easily change fuel
settings between three fuel maps (lean, standard and rich) with the
rich-lean coupler relocated for easier access and change without
tools.
The redesigned exhaust system meets new FIM sound control
regulations, a key goal of Suzuki engineers, thanks to a 50mm
extension of the exhaust pipe and redesigned internal muffler
parts, increasing bottom to mid-range power and torque, without
compromising engine performance.
The RM-Z450 is now equipped with an all-new race-bred 48mm Showa
Separate Function front fork containing the spring on the right
leg, while the left leg incorporates the cartridge assembly to
manage damping with the result being less friction, increased
damping and an overall weight saving.
The all-new aggressive graphics accentuate the RM-Z450's
Black/Yellow livery and stylish new two-tone radiator shrouds are
guaranteed to turn heads.
Motocross and supercross racers of the Suzuki RM-Z450 are also
eligible to register for Suzuki's Support Rider program, offering
generous contingency payments on national and state
championships.
The 2013 Suzuki RM-Z450 is due to arrive in Australia within the
coming months and information on pricing will be available in due
course.
